I have a friend who makes "The Best Egg Nog in the World" every holiday season, and I'm really tempted to keep this beauty to encourage him, I can already smell the fresh nutmeg!
The set is complete, with twelve perfect cups, a wonderful huge underplate that also doubles as a large serving platter, and the original glass ladle, which almost never survives. The cups all have ground bottoms.
I believe the pattern is Laurel Wreath, which was produced from 1940 - 1958, when Cambridge shut it's doors for the final time. However, there is a possibility that the pattern is Cambridge Minton Wreath, produced from 1945 - 1956. I have contacted the Cambridge Collector's Society, and even they cannot tell me for sure which of the two patterns this is, but they did say that it was a scarce piece.
Condition is grand. There are bubbles scattered here and there; there is a tiny one that has popped on the lip of the bowl in the manufacture, and been smoothed by the final fire polish. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs on this stunning set. The bowl measures 11 1/2" across the top, the underplate is a whopping 15 5/8" in diameter, the cups are 2 7/8" in diameter, and the ladle is 14" long overall.
So have some friends over and whip up a batch of your own special Egg Nog!
