Vallerysthal made a series of pressed glass animal dishes in the 19th C, and is still producing today. This pattern, called 'Argonaut Shell', was copied by Westmoreland, the later, American bowls, having slightly different design details.
This lovely covered bowl is just dripping with festoons of shells, pressed in deep relief. Three dolphin feet support the bowl, and the lid is crowned by a single large shell finial.
Condition is great. I can find no chips, cracks or repairs. There are some rough places where the mold seams were not polished or trimmed... not all companies did this, and the companies that did, often missed some. There is some dirt that has settled into the cracks here and there, and I have not cleaned this off, as I once removed all signs of dirt from another, similar Victorian piece, and regretted it... so I leave the 'to clean, or not to clean' quandary to you. It stands 6˝" tall, and measures 5˝" in diameter. c. early 1900's.
This is an outstanding bowl in a wonderful blue color that complements it's 'ocean' theme. You'll love it.
