What an astonishing piece of early Czechoslovakian glass.

In 1918, the Czechs and the Slovaks (two distinct peoples) were united, set free from the domination of Austria-Hungary, and given a country of their own... Czechoslovakia. The same glass artists that had created Bohemian, Moser, and Austrian glass rejoiced, expressing this through their work with an explosion of color and creativity. This beverage set is of that era.

The top opens to reveal a fitted 'bar', with a decanter and six glasses... how chic!

This extraordinary piece is mouth blown of cased glass, clear over white... you can see these colors alone in the picture of the mark on the bottom. Between these two layers, on the body of the piece, is a layer of mottled blue... very unusual.

The top is decorated with gold and enamel in a floral motif, with raised enamel dots and flourishes, and a thicker application that gives dimension to some of the petals.

It is marked on the bottom, "Made In Czecho Slovakia'

Condition is very good. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs to the beautiful cased glass container. There is some expected wear to the gold, but really not much. There is considerable wear to the silver plating on the fitting that holds the glasses and decanter. The decanter is original and retains it's stopper that still fits snugly, there are a few nibbles around the lip. Four of the glasses are original with bubbles and lines in their hand blown glass, there is a bit of roughness here and there to their ground edges. Two of the glasses are old replacements that fit in the container and complete the set, this is how it came to me. This extraordinary piece stands 15" tall, with an 8" diameter.

This is a fabulous piece of glass, simply stunning, a real jaw dropper. Put some Schnapps in it next time you have guests in for a nightcap, or just put it on display and wait for the 'ooos' and 'ahhhs'. A sensational piece.
