This stunning charger is a product of the De Porceleyne Fles, the best known and most respected porcelain factory in Holland.
De Porceleyne Fles sets the standard of quality by which all modern Delftware is measured. Of the 32 factories that were established in Holland in the 17th C, De Porceleyne Fles is the only one still in existence. They were started in 1635, and are still producing, using old methods traditional to the earliest Delftware, hand painting all decoration without the use of stencils. They have been honored by Queen Wilhelmina for their outstanding workmanship, and produce the only genuine Royal Delft.
This piece is in the 'Pijnacker' style, a type of Delftware that is mainly decorated in red, blue and gold. This style is rooted in the tradition of Japanese Imari porcelain. I just love the little dragonfly! The mark dates it to 1960.
It is in perfect condition. There are two piercings in the foot, original to the piece, and meant to provide a means of hanging it for display. This is a large, beautiful charger, measuring 13 5/8" in diameter, with a depth of 1 5/8".
This is, quite simply, the best there is.
