$195 USDEmbossed Earthenware Jug or Pitcher w/ Horse Head Thumb Rest - Arthur Wood & Son Ltd.

Pottery:By Maker:Arthur Wood & Son Ltd
A fine English pottery jug or pitcher with an unusual thumb rest in the form of a horses head. Embossed horses and riders gallop around the body of this interesting piece in a perpetual race, the action caught in a decorative frieze for us to admire. Condition is great, with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs that I can see. There is some overall crazing as you might expect, and just a trace or minor staining, testament to the functional nature of this old piece. Measures 8 1/8" tall, and 7 ...

Pottery:By Maker:Villeroy And Boch, Mettlach
This fabulous Mettlach Pitcher Stein is graced with relief decoration so intricate and charming that it took my breath away when I first laid eyes on it. Overflowing with seasonal motifs and references, the closer you look, the more you see. Outstanding. The blue band around the belly of this piece displays twelve figures in deep relief representing the months of the year with each performing a different seasonal activity, even Father Christmas makes an appearance under the applied handle. $300 USD Offers ConsideredWedgwood Blue & White Transfer Basket W/ Handle - "Ferrara"

Pottery:By Maker:Wedgwood:Transferware:Transfer Ware
This wonderful basket is one piece of a small collection of Wedgwood blue and white transfer I was lucky enough to find recently. This piece is remarkable. The fragile, arching handle has survived the years intact, as well as the delicate, raised foot, amazing! The pattern is "Ferrara" with the characteristic ships being displayed only at the bottom of the bowl, the blue transfer being dark and intense, and there is the characteristic blue pooling of the pearlware glaze under the foot. Condition ...

$75 USD Offers ConsideredDiminutive Romantic Staffordshire Transferware Platter - 'Waverly' by Thomas Edwards - 1841

Pottery:By Maker:Thomas Edwards:Transfer Ware
A sweet little platter with a typical early to mid 19th C romantic design... two ladies and a gent out for a stroll, body of water with a castle on the distant shore, small boats, rustic bridge and gazebo whose roof curves up with an oriental flair... a lovely design with all the elements we've come to love, framed by a wide border, and presented in a beautiful light blue. The pattern is 'Waverly' by Thomas Edwards circa 1841, and the overall shape of this little piece couldn't be prettier. ...
Royal Doulton Salt Glazed Stoneware Jug / Pitcher Trimmed w/ Hallmarked Sterling Silver & Appl

$295 USD Offers ConsideredRoyal Doulton Salt Glazed Stoneware Jug / Pitcher Trimmed w/ Hallmarked Sterling Silver & Applied Decoration of Hunt Scenes, Hounds, Horses, Stag, & Windmill - English - British

Pottery:By Maker:Royal Doulton, Doulton Lambeth
A great little Royal Doulton jug, it's rim bound in hallmarked sterling silver. This pitcher is unusual in that most of these jugs were left plain, no silver rims. And I do believe the silver is part of the original manufacture; the pottery markings and silver hallmarks all seem to be of the same time period, and there is no evidence of the silver being a clever make-do repair. Condition is great. I have left the silver unpolished as some collectors prefer their items to be as found. However, I ...

$275 USD Offers ConsideredDoulton Lambeth Salt Glazed Stoneware Jug / Pitcher w/ Applied Decoration of Hunt Scenes, Hounds, Horses, Stag, & Windmill - English - British

Pottery:By Maker:Royal Doulton, Doulton Lambeth
A fine English jug with applied figures. Around the plumpest part of the belly are a windmill, a tree, and three men sitting and smoking, drinking, and idly gazing off into the distance... perhaps watching the horses and hounds below, where a hunt races at full gallop, hounds and stag in a never ending circle of flight and pursuit. The deep red iron oxide glaze glows orangy brown on the yellow clay of the stoneware body, while it changes to a nice ochre where the dip covered the figural ...

A lovely, and tiny rectangular transfer platter. The two asymmetric cartouches, typical of the late 19th C aesthetic design period in England, display a bird, looking a bit worried, and an idyllic farm scene with a thatched cottage. Outside the cartouches are other charming naturalistic designs typical of this period... I particularly like the bee and flowers. The mark indicates this piece was made at the New Wharf Pottery Co., started in 1877, when Thomas (known as T. F.), and his brother ...

Pottery:By Maker:Max Roesler, Rodach:Children's China
This little child's cup was produced by Max Roesler, Rodach, in Bavaria near the Thuringian Forest, better known today as Bad Rodach. French Plate with Pierrots - Keller & Guerin Luneville France - 1900 - 1920

$225 USD Offers ConsideredFrench Plate with Pierrots - Keller & Guerin Luneville France - 1900 - 1920

Pottery:By Maker:Keller & Guerin, Luneville
I've pondered this delightful antique plate for some time now and still am not sure of the significance of the three Pierrots who seem to be fleeing from a mysterious shadow-figure of a man with a fedora and a walking stick, one of them caught on a tree branch in his haste. Perhaps this is illustrating a French fable, as there definitely seems to be a narrative of some sort; I just don't know, but it is certainly a quintessentially French scene. Curious and mysterious, with more than a soupcon ...
SOLD Peters & Reed Jardiniere or Bowl - American Art Pottery

SOLDSOLD Peters & Reed Jardiniere or Bowl - American Art Pottery

Pottery:By Maker:Peters & Reed
This striking low jardiniere is a fine example of American pottery of the Arts & Crafts era. I believe it was made by Peters & Reed. Peters & Reed, one of many American potteries in Ohio, was founded in 1899 by John D. Peters and Adam Reed who changed the name to The Zane Pottery Company in 1921. Production continued until 1941 when the pottery was sold to Gonder Pottery. The early production from the Peters & Reed years is unsigned as this piece is. The glaze is thick and a mottled buff color ...

Set apart by its size, this fabulous piece holds a full 1 1/2 gallons in its bulbous belly. Appropriate for even the best attended banquet, I think it would be the perfect container for a seasonal arrangement of branches... wouldn't some curly willow look just fabu in there? The exterior is decorated with blue underglaze transfers. The red decoration is overglaze and a combination of transfers and hand applied details. The colors overlap and sweep around the neck and body of this classic, well ...

This lovely pitcher is part of a small collection of antique blue and white transfer I acquired recently. Wedgwood in the Ferrara pattern, it displays deep cobalt transfers. The molded, applied handle has a leaf shaped thumb rest and bottom, and the octagonal shape is a classic. Condition is not perfect. There is a line at the bottom of the handle, and someone loved it enough, and thought it was important enough, to repair the lip long ago. Despite this, the piece displays very nicely. Measures ...

This circular scene is surrounded by an irregular border of tangled blossoms and leaves, with the plate also displaying its own foliate edge border. Condition is great ...
