This is an old hand crank ice cream freezer called a White Mountain Junior. Many people refer to this size as a salesman's sample, however as the name Junior implies, this was just a small version of the full size freezers made by the White Mountain Freezer company. This miniature is completely functional as an ice cream freezer, just like the larger version....it just makes a lot less. It is said to have a one pint capacity, about enough for two scoops. The barrel is held together with the three original brass bands. Inside, is a metal canister driven by a gear operated by the hand crank. Inside the canister is wood paddle to churn the ice cream. There is a hole on the side of the wood barrel to allow the melting ice to drain. The cast mechanism on the top is embossed with; White Mountain Junior. Originally there was a paper label on the front of the barrel but there are only remnants remaining. This is from the early 1900's and not the remake of the 1980's.

The barrel measures about 6 1/4" high with the overall height being about 7 5/8" high. The barrel is slightly tapered measuring about 5" in diameter at the top and 4 3/4" at the bottom. It is in very nice original condition. The wood is in good condition and the original finish is crazed as shown in the photos. The brass bands are discolored from the application of the original finish and as well as green from oxidation. No attempt has been made to clean this as it is, in my opinion, in very good original condition. It is complete with all of the parts in tact, no damage or cracks in the castings. The paper label is missing from the front of the barrel as previously mentioned.

The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
