Art Nouveau Scent Bottle with Silver Overlay

$175 USDArt Nouveau Scent Bottle with Silver Overlay

Silver:Art Nouveau:Scent:Perfume
A delightful small clear glass scent bottle with sterling silver overlay in a swirling Art Nouveau floral design. As it reaches the neck the silver overlay covers the glass completely, and the stopper also is fairly heavily encased. Nice ground pontil to the base of the bottle, with a scratched 41, probably the pattern number. The clear glass lower part of the stopper has a bubble which has reached the surface at one point, so there is a roughness, and the glass inside the neck has some slight ...
A Victorian silver bonbon dish, 1897 (Free Shipping)

$75 USDA Victorian silver bonbon dish, 1897 (Free Shipping)

Silver:Antique:Sterling:Victorian:Bonbon
A Victorian silver bonbon dish, hallmarked in Birmingham in 1897. It has a prettily pierced rim and measures about 4.7 inches in diameter. The full UK hallmark is shown but it is well hidden in the scrollwork. The maker's mark is CS FS with possibly a badly struck '&' in between. I am informed (thank you, A.C.) that this is Cornelius Saunders & Francis Shepard. A few minute dents on the plain base, and a few tiny dull spots which will gradually disappear with frequent gentle polishing, but ...
A Pair of Victorian Salt Spoons: 1855 (Free Shipping)

$65 USDA Pair of Victorian Salt Spoons: 1855 (Free Shipping)

Silver:Antique:Sterling:Salt
A typically Victorian pair of salt spoons, hallmarked in Glasgow in 1855. They are approximately 4.1 inches long, carry an initial which is probably G, and have some pitting in the bowls, which can be seen in the scan, no doubt caused by the salt for which they were used. A Handsome Pair of Silver-Handled Fish Servers circa 1880

$125 USDA Handsome Pair of Silver-Handled Fish Servers circa 1880

Silver:Antique:Sterling:Flatware:Cutlery
A handsome pair of silver-handled fish servers, missing their date mark, probably by John Round of Sheffield, circa 1880. They could also be by Joseph Rodgers. They may not look very practical, but are very useful when serving a large fish such as a whole poached salmon. I recommend poaching as a way of cooking the salmon, but not as a method for obtaining it!

$225 USDCocktail Sticks: Enamel and Silver Gilt

Silver:Sterling:Enamel:Cocktail
A gorgeous and apparently unused boxed set of cocktail sticks with a a vibrant enamelled cockerel atop each one. So fashionable in the 1920s and of course popular again now. Each stick measures about 3 1/2 inches (9cm) and is marked Sterling Silver along the shaft. Both sticks and box in near-perfect condition. What a great gift for the couple who have everything! Sterling Silver Tea Strainer: 1908/9

$105 USDSterling Silver Tea Strainer: 1908/9

Silver:Sterling:Tea Strainer
A Sterling Silver tea strainer, hallmarked in Birmingham, England 1908/1909. Fully Hallmarked and has a Registration number as well which reads: 5282.. (the last two numbers I can't make out). While the Hallmarks are mostly worn away on the handle, only the date letter 'i' for 1908 being fully readable, there are another set on the bowl, "k" for 1909. The maker's initials are T.H.H. It measures 6 1/2 inches long. No damage to the bowl and no crushing or mis-shaping, just a few tiny dents to the ...
Sterling Silver Cheroot Case: Hallmarked 1901

$250 USDSterling Silver Cheroot Case: Hallmarked 1901

Silver:Antique:Sterling:Tobacciana:Cheroot Case:Cigar:Cigarette
A very pretty Sterling Silver Cheroot Case, hallmarked 1901. I gave this to my mother many years ago, hoping it would fit her cigarettes, but she smoked long, tipped ones and I suspect it didn't. Nonetheless, she treasured it. Delightfully and crisply engraved with flowing scrollwork and flowers, initialled in that script which is so pretty and so hard to read, but probably JGS or IGS.Unusually, one of the elastic straps inside remains in place. Hallmarked inside on both sides, only one being ...
Scottish Georgian Sterling Silver Sauce Ladle: 1818

$125 USDScottish Georgian Sterling Silver Sauce Ladle: 1818

Silver:Antique:Sterling:Scottish:Georgian:Ladle
A Scottish Georgian sterling silver sauce ladle, hallmarked in Edinburgh in 1818, marked J Mc for John McKay, who was admitted to the guild of Edinburgh goldsmiths in 1793. Beautifully simple fiddle shape, with a single letter R, somewhat rubbed, engraved on the handle. The bowl maybe slightly out of shape, but otherwise in excellent and relatively unworn condition. A fraction over six inches in overall length, it weighs 32.5 grams. There may be a slight kink to the handle just before it ...

$275 USDSterling Silver Repousse Sugar Bowl: Hallmarked Sheffield 1902

A beautiful sterling silver repousse sugar bowl, hallmarked in Sheffield, England in 1902, Maker's mark FBs Ltd. Heavily decorated with flowers, scrolling foliage and two empty cartouches. Sterling Silver Christening Mug: Mappin and Webb: Hallmarked 1923

$275 USDSterling Silver Christening Mug: Mappin and Webb: Hallmarked 1923

Silver:Sterling:Christening Mug
This sturdy little mug is too heavy for my jewellery scales. My kitchen scales say it weighs 260 grams. Made by the prestigious firm of Mappin and Webb, it clearly bears the Sheffield hallmark for 1923. It measures 3.3 inches in height and the diameter at the base is 2.8 inches, across the top 2.6 inches. (8.5cm, 7cm, 6.6cm). This must have been for a little boy. Its sturdiness would have withstood some mistreatment but it does not appear to have received any. I have left it unpolished - ...
Sterling Silver Paper Clip: Frazer Ferguson and MacBean, Inverness

$1,750 USDSterling Silver Paper Clip: Frazer Ferguson and MacBean, Inverness

Silver:Sterling:Scottish Provincial:Inverness:Luckenbooth
A sterling silver paper clip in the crowned heart or luckenbooth form, by Frazer Ferguson and MacBean of Inverness. Marked INVSS and FF&M. Ferguson and MacBean were registered in 1880 and were still lacking Frazer in 1900. This piece is therefore not as old as it looks, and probably dates between 1900 and 1910. Inverness was a minor guild and did not use full date marks. This handsome piece of desk silver weighs a sturdy 47 grams and has a very strong, workable spring clip. All Scottish ...

SALE PENDING Silver Ploughing Medal: Highland Society of Scotland: 1811

$475 USD Sale PendingSALE PENDING Silver Ploughing Medal: Highland Society of Scotland: 1811

Silver:Antique:Sterling:Medal:Scottish:Agricultural:Georgian
A sterling silver medal from the reign of George III, presented by the Highland Society of Scotland to Mr John Duncan in 1811. Hallmarked in Edinburgh in 1811, maker J.Mc (probably J. McKay) The side opposite the inscription carries a beautiful depiction of a plough, hence my opinion that this was a medal won in a ploughing match, a popular test of strength and skill at the time. This is a large medal, not thick front to back but the oval measuring two and one eighth inches by one and five ...
