Adams Cries of London Mug: Milkmaid

$75 USDAdams Cries of London Mug: Milkmaid

Pottery:By Maker:Adams
A good sized mug, four inches in height, from the Adams 'Cries of London' series - 'Milk below Maids'. The transfer print is from one of the famous paintlings by F. Wheatly, RA. In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. Slight wear to the green rim, as is to be expected. This is clearly shown in the photographs.
Crown Devon Honeycomb Box

$145 USD Offers ConsideredCrown Devon Honeycomb Box

Pottery:Crown Devon
A Fielding's Crown Devon honeycomb box, much rarer than the honey pots, in perfect condition with just the shadow of a stain on the base, and two other tiny stains, one on one side, and one underneath the bee on the lid - see photos. A fraction over five inches square. No chips, cracks or other damage. A real fun piece, and very rare.
Devon Motto Ware Bowl

$45 USDDevon Motto Ware Bowl

Pottery:Devon Motto Ware
A small motto ware bowl, probably intended as a sugar bowl, made from the typical Devon rich red-brown clay body with incised slip, It portrays the typical cottage, the name of the town where it would have been sold to tourists - Symonds Yat - which is actually on the River Wye on the county border of Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, and the motto 'Help yourself Don't be shy'. It measures four inches in diameter, and I have pictured the mark but it is badly printed and unreadable. In perfect ...
Blue & White Soup Plate: Italian Scenery

$100 USDBlue & White Soup Plate: Italian Scenery

Pottery:Staffordshire:Blue & White
A blue and white soup plate, 10.25 inches in diameter, marked on the reverse 'Italian Scenery' - see the extra pictures. It has a slight chip in the glaze where the bowl joins the lip, which is visible in the scan. On the rim there are three visible kiln-marks (see scan), and under the rim the kiln marks are composed of three dots in a triangular formation. Slight chips to the footrim can be seen in the second picture. There is also slight wear to the glaze on the rim, which shows up as brown ...
Burlington Vase by Bournes of Denby, circa 1950

$55 USDBurlington Vase by Bournes of Denby, circa 1950

Pottery:Bourne:Denby
A multi-coloured pastel Burlington vase by Albert Colledge from the Bournes of Denby factory, 1950s, 11 inches high, and of extremely good quality. In perfect condition apart from very tiny nibbles which have been photographed at high magnification (see extra photos).
Barum Ware Jug by Brannam of Barnstaple, 1893-1913

$45 USDBarum Ware Jug by Brannam of Barnstaple, 1893-1913

Pottery:Art Pottery
A vibrant Barum Ware jug by Charles H. Brannam of Barnstaple in North Devon, made between 1893 and 1913. Art Pottery, but using a colour which is more reminiscent of the Art Deco period. The interior glaze is darker, like that on the base – you can see the contrast between the two glazes on the second scan, which shows the marks. This darker effect is probably because the glaze is thinner, and the rich reddish-brown body of the jug, so typical of the Devon wares, is showing through. It is about ...
Denby Marguerita pattern Sauce Boat

$25 USDDenby Marguerita pattern Sauce Boat

Pottery:Denby
A sauce boat (gravy boat) in the Marguerita pattern. Sturdily made, as are all Denby's wares, but with a delightfully 50s floral design in yellow and black and a beautiful mid-century shape. In perfect condition, it measures 11 inches overall, including the handle, by just over 3 inches at its widest.
Delft Hand Painted Tile with Sailing Ships

$55 USDDelft Hand Painted Tile with Sailing Ships

Pottery:Delft:Tile
An attractive and very decorative small Delft tile, depicting a sailing ship or galleon in full sail, with other ships in the background. It has an impressed mark on the back, which I have done my best to photographs, and the painted initials MvW. It measures four inches (10 cm) square, and is 3/8 of an inch (0.9 mm) thick. There are a few small nibbles to the glaze round the edge, which are shown clearly in the photos.
Gaudy Welsh Teapot

$95 USDGaudy Welsh Teapot

Pottery:By Function:Teapots:Gaudy Welsh
A 'Gaudy Welsh' teapot, decorated in the typical Imari palette with gilding. About five inches in height to the top of the knob. Not in perfect condition – there are two chips and a knock on the rim. The chip on the lid is glazed over and must have been made before the pot was sold to its first owner. I have done my best to show all these in the photos. Marked on the base with an impressed ENGLAND, which dates it to after 1892, and T255 in the iron red, almost certainly a decorator’s mark.
Fun Ceramic Wine Label: Le Plonque

$20 USDFun Ceramic Wine Label: Le Plonque

Pottery:Wine Label:Mid Century
This no doubt was committed by my parents at about the same time as the sandwich labels. In joking homage to the elegant silver labels used for quality wines, it declares the wine around whose bottle it is hung to be 'Le Plonque Appellation Controlee'. In the UK 'plonk' is (or maybe was) the generic term for any cheap, basic wine. In perfect condition, it appears never to have been used - which is probably a good thing - but can now see a new life as a wry look back at mid-century table setting. ...
Gaudy Welsh Imari palette double pickle dish

$125 USDGaudy Welsh Imari palette double pickle dish

Pottery:Antique:Gaudy Welsh
A handsome and somehow cheerful dish - it brings a smile to my face. It could be used for pickles, or equally for strawberries and thick cream (yum!). In the style known as Gaudy Welsh, in an Imari palette - cobalt blue, iron red and gilding on a beautiful cream body - it is mid to late Nineteenth Century. It measures a little over ten inches in length by five inches at the widest by about two and a half inches in height to the top of the handle. (26cm x 14cm x 8cm) I have looked carefully and ...
Isle of Wight Pottery Posy Ring

$65 USDIsle of Wight Pottery Posy Ring

Pottery:Isle Of Wight
The Isle of Wight Pottery was founded in 1926 and closed in 1938. This posy ring is a very attractive example of their typical coloured glaze applied at the rim and allowed to run down the sides of the pot. A lovely blue/green mix on a body of red local clay. It measures six inches in diameter (15cm), and apart from two nibbles in the base rim invisible in use, it is perfect. A lovely piece on its own or filled to make a circlet of tiny flowers.
Indian Tree pattern Jug by HJ Wood

$65 USDIndian Tree pattern Jug by HJ Wood

Pottery:Hj Wood:Staffordshire:Jug:Pitcher
An Indian Tree pattern jug (pitcher) by HJ Wood of Staffordshire, fresh and vibrant and in absolutely perfect condition, with no chips, cracks or staining. It measures about 8 inches in height. Marked on the base Indian Tree, Handpainted, HJ Wood Ltd, England. There is a mark which looks like 585 raised rather than impressed in the body at the base, which would appear to be a pattern number, and a decorator's number - 1769 over 5. This jug has been in my family for many years, but lived on a ...
Maling Pink Thumbprint Dish with Primula Pattern

$55 USDMaling Pink Thumbprint Dish with Primula Pattern

Pottery:Maling
A Maling dish with pink thumbprint design, edged with a pattern of primulas. About 10.2 inches in overall length, this is an attractive boat-shaped dish. There are a few slight manufacturing flaws – some small round brown marks on the pink pattern inside the dish and three slight black marks on the pink pattern on the underside. Otherwise perfect. A pretty and collectable dish.
Royal Winton Chintz Somerset pattern Comport

$65 USDRoyal Winton Chintz Somerset pattern Comport

Pottery:Royal Winton:Chintz:Compote:Comport:Tazza
A Royal Winton chintz Somerset pattern footed dish, compote or tazza - 6.25 inches across the top. Perfect apart from a hairline age crack which only shows underneath on the undecorated part and is roughly half an inch long. Crisp, bright colours. Very pretty.
Upchurch Pottery twin-handled Vase

$125 USDUpchurch Pottery twin-handled Vase

Pottery:Studio Pottery:Upchurch
A delightful Upchurch Pottery twin-handled vase in shades of dusty pink and heather, with warm brown accents. Reminiscent of an ancient urn form, this vase was made by the Upchurch Pottery in Kent, England, which was opened in 1913 and was well known for its studio pottery in soft-colored glazes. It closed in 1963. Edward Spencer, who is mainly known for his design work with Martin Brothers, collaborated with Edward Baker in formulating recipes for glazes. This vase measures four inches (10cm) ...
Unusual Pottery Ice Jug in the form of a Monkey

$85 USDUnusual Pottery Ice Jug in the form of a Monkey

Pottery:Jugs
An unusual Majolica jug in the form of a monkey, probably French in origin. The jug is about eight and a quarter inches in height and is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks. It is lighter in weight than one might expect and, despite the fact that it is perfect, has little or no 'ring'. There is a fairly obvious mould line between the two halves, which can be seen clearly on the photographs. It is a jug full of character and would work well as a jug for iced drinks because of the small ...
Scottish Transfer Printed Jug with Personalisation: Serious damage

$30 USDScottish Transfer Printed Jug with Personalisation: Serious damage

Pottery:Scottish
A Scottish jug, missing its handle and with hairline cracks and a slight chip. Really just a reference piece, or could look good on a high shelf where the loss of the handle would not be noticed. Because this is nonetheless a unique item I have decided to list it. It's looking for a good home! It bears the text: John & Agnes McDonald 1847 and the delightful verse: A little Health, A little Wealth, A little House and freedom And at the end a little friend And little cause to need him Because of ...
Spode Blue & White Plate, Union Wreath 3: circa 1825 (Two available)

$195 USDSpode Blue & White Plate, Union Wreath 3: circa 1825 (Two available)

Pottery:Antique:Spode:Blue
A Spode blue and white pottery plate in the Union Wreath 3 or Union Spray pattern. Thanks to Gay of Owens Antiques on Ruby Lane for identifying this for me. I have two available. The central pattern joins the rose of England, the thistle of Scotland and the shamrock of Ireland in a tied bouquet, and around the border is the daffodil of Wales. Each plate bears an impressed SPODE mark with the number 44 (oddly reversed). This mark was used from circa 1784 but the pattern dates to circa 1825. Each ...
Staffordshire Pottery Figure of Sarah Siddons as Lady MacBeth (possible restoration)

$100 USD Offers ConsideredStaffordshire Pottery Figure of Sarah Siddons as Lady MacBeth (possible restoration)

Pottery:Antique:Staffordshire:Figures:Theatrical
A Staffordshire pottery figure of the famous actress Mrs Siddons, one of the major stars of the Victorian theatre, as Lady Macbeth. She is holding the bloodstained cloth with which she is trying to remove from her hands the blood of Duncan. The style of her dress indicates that this is a figure from the 1860s. Approximately 8 inches tall, she is in excellent condition for her age, with the usual crackling of the glaze and one chip to her footrim which is only evident when you pick her up and ...
Wedgwood 8 inch diameter Green Jasper Bowl: 1961

$100 USDWedgwood 8 inch diameter Green Jasper Bowl: 1961

Pottery:Wedgwood:Jasper
A Wedgwood green jasper bowl, fractionally under eight inches in diameter, beautifully decorated with Graeco-Roman figures, the top bordered by a garland of oak leaves and acorns. Impressed marks ‘WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND 61’, so made in 1961. There is a tiny bubble in the green body just to the left of one of the trees. Otherwise I can see no flaws, and there is no trace of damage. An elegant bowl in a sought-after colour.
A cute Studio Pottery Gnome

$30 USDA cute Studio Pottery Gnome

Pottery:Studio Pottery
A cute studio pottery gnome, stoneware with a brown glazed cap. He measures about 3.5 inches (8cm) in height and appears to be solid, not hollow. He has a mark which looks like a M over a W in a rounded square frame. In perfect condition. Quite heavy for his size because of his solidity.
A small Poole Pottery Pin Dish

$12 USDA small Poole Pottery Pin Dish

Pottery:Poole
A small Poole Pottery pin dish, classic Poole colouring with the dotted edge. Hand painted centre with flower design. There is an effect in the petals of the blue flower which may or may not be intentional, but it is original. The dish is initialled but I can't read the initials. Visible craquelure. Marked Poole England IE. Diameter is 4 inches (10cm)
REDUCED Blue & White Platter:Triumphal Car: Bells of Glasgow: 1842-81

$155 USD ReducedREDUCED Blue & White Platter:Triumphal Car: Bells of Glasgow: 1842-81

Pottery:Antique:Blue & White:Transferware:Scottish
A medium sized blue and white platter by J&MP Bell of Glasgow, with the impressed bell mark used between 1842, when the factory was founded, and 1881. It measures approximately 12 inches by 10 inches (30 x 25.5 cm) so is suitable for a small roast. There is surface crazing and some associated staining, and the print itself, as so often with Bells ware, is rather pale and - not really blurred, but not very sharp. The staining is more visible on the back where you will also see the typical kiln ...
REDUCED Fun Party Sandwich Labels: Set of 5

$45 USD ReducedREDUCED Fun Party Sandwich Labels: Set of 5

Pottery:Sandwich Markers:Sandwich Labels:Party
I don't recall my parents ever using these. They are in such pristine condition that maybe they never did. They are markers or labels for sandwiches on a buffet or party table. The sandwiches contained egg, ham, cheese, salmon (canned of course) and egg 'n cress. This was standard party fare when I was young - almost any other filling would have been unthinkable. Very mid-century and would look great in an appropriately themed party setting. I photographed the backs of four before I realised I ...
