19th Century Carved Shaker,Rare Form in Vegetable Ivory

Here is a wonderfully carved shaker form. A luxury for the 19th century genteel woman. I'm not sure if this would have been used for sugar or for sand at the ladies writing desk but it would have been displayed for certain. Perhaps it would have been displayed hanging from a ladies waist as the top knob of the screw on lid is pierced through as if it were to be hung from a cord.

The threads on the screw on top are all intact and thread well. The lid closes securely. The design is an intricate series of carved circles made into many various patterns across the piece. A true delight from the 19th century which may appeal to collectors of sugar shakers or desk accessory aficionados or both!
