SALE Vintage Doll Dress, Hand-Sewn, Cotton with Lace Trim

This was a simple dress, or perhaps a nightgown, for a little girl’s doll. It’s difficult to put a date on when this dress was made, but I believe it is earlier than 1925.

It is simply made from a single piece of fabric, possibly a feed bag as there is a row of darker lines running down the back. The fabric was then folded double with the neck-hole cut from the center, and stitched down the sides. A pleat goes across the shoulders on each side to give the dress some shaping.

It’s easy to imagine mother stitching the body of the dress on her treadle sewing machine, and her daughter adding the lace edging around the neck and sleeves by hand. Some of the pleat stitching has come undone, and there are several stains, plus three small holes in the back.

The garment measures 16 inches from shoulder to hem, and 16-1/4 inches from sleeve edge to sleeve edge. It has been washed and ironed, and comes to you from our smoke-free, pet-free home.

This item will be carefully folded, packaged with a backing board and plastic sleeve and shipped by first class mail in a bubble envelope, with postal insurance included within the US. Insurance may be declined if not desired.
