This small leather-bound book is a pleasure to hold in the hand and a fascinating document of justice in the early 1800s. It was compiled and printed by Isaac Hill in 1824, in Concord, New Hampshire.

Apparently JPs had much wider authority than today, as the book appears to list every possible criminal act that might happen in New Hampshire, from such major crimes as treason and murder, down to such misdemeanors as traveling on the Sabbath and inspection of beef. The book details the appropriate documentation and rules of evidence dealing with these acts, and uses examples of actual cases in most instances.

The binding is generally tight, although the front endpaper is loosened and Joseph Boodey, Esq., has stamped his name on it. The leather cover is stained and worn. The pages are browned, about 10 pages are creased, and the printing has offset.

A handwritten deposition has been folded and tucked in at the back of the book, and a notation has been written on the back endpaper. The book has 320 numbered pages, including an extensive index, and measures 4-1/2 by 6-7/8 inches.

This book will be protectively packaged and shipped by priority mail, including postal insurance within the US. International postal insurance may be declined if not desired.
