This child’s dress is beautifully sewn and embroidered. It dates to circa 1910, as I found a photo in a 1911 issue of “The Delineator” showing a very similar dress.

The fabric is an ecru linen, and the bodice and cuffs are embroidered in a pattern of stars and circles with brown silk floss. The dress is fastened at the back with hooks and eyes, which are covered by a placket forming a large pleat down to the hem. There are no raw seam edges – all the seams have been either rolled or covered with bias tape.

The dress had been altered to fit a smaller child by shortening the sleeves under the cuffs (see photo). The neckline was filled in with a lighter shade of the ecru linen – my photo shows how this was sewn in. There are embroidered belt-loops at each side, but the original belt is missing – I have used a brown satin ribbon as a replacement.

The dress has a few light stains, but there are no tears or holes. The dress measures 9-3/4 inch across the shoulders, and 21-1/2 inches from the neck to the hem. The sleeves are 12-1/2 inches long. This garment has been gently washed and ironed, and comes to you from our smoke-free, pet-free home.
