This watch chain made of braided hair dates from the Victorian era when a popular craft was to use a loved one’s hair for a sentimental memento. This watch chain is made of dark brown and lighter brown hairs, each strand beautifully braided and then twisted together.

The hair chain is 11 inches long, excluding the metal fixtures on either end, and the diameter is 3/8 inches. One end has the fitting to hold the watch fob, the other end has the hook to hold the pocket watch. In the center is a fixture with a watch key, used to wind up a pocket watch before the use of an attached winding mechanism became common.
