The Los Castillo firm, located in the famous silversmithing region of Taxco, Mexico, was an innovator in designs using mixed metals. This unusual fish pin has four metals - silver, copper, brass and a grey alloy - over a silver base.

The mark, which you can clearly see in my detail photo, is one that was used by Los Castillo from 1948 to 1955. It reads: Hecho en Mexico, Los Castillo Taxco, with the Mexican assay hallmark for 925 sterling and the design #203.

The pin measures 2 inches from nose to tail-tip, and 1-1/2 inches across the tail. There is a chip or scrape to the finish at the area where the tail meets the body (see the detail photo).
