Six Victorian Letterpress Booklets of England – London, Brighton and Others

These six booklets were printed by the letterpress process, which can be recognized by the clear impression of the letters on the page. They can be dated to the Victorian era by their references to Queen Victoria as the current reigning monarch.

The six booklets are titled: “The Interior of the Crystal Palace”, “The City of London”, “Views on the Thames”, “Brighton”, “Shakespeare” and “The Isle of Wight”. The text of each booklet describes the history and tourist highlights of the area.

Each booklet contains 16 pages and measures 4-1/8 by 6-1/2 inches. They are age-browned, and “The Crystal Palace” is badly foxed. “Shakespeare” has a stain on the bottom right corner, and there is a small crease on the cover of “Views on the Thames”. None of the booklets have tears. The spine has a simple sewn binding.
