I didn’t know what this item was until I found it in “Warman’s Jewelry Identification and Price Guide”, on page 51. It’s the central element of a bracelet, press-molded from bog oak, and dating to 1860-1880. The holes through which black elastic was strung can be seen on the back.

The segments that make up the rest of this bracelet are missing, but it is a wonderful piece on its own. (My fourth photo shows Warman's description of the entire bracelet.) Perhaps a pin-back could be attached, or it could be used as a pendant.

The piece measures 1-3/8 inches in diameter, and the domed shape is 5/8 inches high. It is in excellent condition.
