My shop is a mix of vintage costume jewelry, buttons, clothing, books, postcards, sheet music, ephemera, photos, and more.
Part I is a biography of the great poet’s life, beginning with his ancestry and a description of the Merrimack Valley where he lived. Part II is an analysis of his genius and writings.
The book is beautifully bound in olive-green cloth-covered boards printed with blue, maroon and gold on the cover and spine. On the front cover, a laurel leaf surrounds a gold scroll printed with “Whittier”.
Opposite the title page is an illustration of Whittier, protected by a tissue which has adhered to the title page at the bottom. There are six other black-and-white illustrations.
The book has a copyright date of 1886, by D. Lothrop and Company, and was electrotyped by the Boston Stereotype Foundry. There is a gift inscription on the endpaper dated 1892.
There is some shelf wear at the top and bottom of the spine and at the corners. The binding is tight, and there are no cracks at the endpapers. The pages are clean and in very good condition, although slightly age-browned. The book contains 311 numbered pages, and measures approximately 5/1/4 by 7-1/2 inches.
This book will be protectively packaged and shipped in a box by media mail, including postal insurance within the US. International postal insurance may be declined if not desired.
