1903 Dictionary and Handbook for Swedish Immigrants

This book, in addition to being a Swedish/English and English/Swedish dictionary, was a basic handbook for the Swedish immigrant to the US back in the early 1900s. It was copyrighted in 1901 – this is the “Hemlandets” Premium 1903 edition.

The book includes the meaning of abbreviations, information about each of the States, the meaning of some slang phrases (such as “small potatoes”), common useful phrases (such as “What did you say?”), and a guide for letter-writing. There are dozens of full-page black-and-white illustrations.

The book contains 342 numbered pages, plus several pages of advertisements at the back, and measures approximately 7-1/2 by 9-3/4 inches.

The book has dark red fabric-covered boards, with gilt lettering. There is shelf wear at the top and bottom of the spine, and at the corners. There is a water-stain on the front cover and some spots on the back cover. The binding is intact, and there are no cracks at the endpapers. There is light foxing at the fore-edge. The pages are in very good condition with no creases or tears.

This book will be protectively packaged and shipped in a box by priority mail, including postal insurance within the US. International postal insurance may be declined if not desired.
