The author, Kenneth Hare, begins by declaring that the Latin Quarter in London is simply a state of mind, and the book is full of chatty anecdotes about famous and not-so-famous Londoners, with an index at the back.

The 36 illustration plates are by Dorothea St. John George – 12 of these are in color and all would be wonderful framed as they are in very good condition, sharp and clear.

The book was published in London by John Lane, The Bodley Head Ltd. There is a statement that it was “first published in 1926” and is presumed to be a first edition, as there is no statement of later printing on the copyright page.

The cover has grey fabric boards printed in an Art Deco style in black and red. The cover has wear at the top and bottom of the spine, a dark stain on the front, and damage at the bottom edge which can be seen in my photo. The interior pages have deckle fore-edges, and have several underlinings and marginal notes written in red pencil (see photo for sample). There are no tears or dog-ears. The front endpaper has a private library stamp and a date of 1933 (see photo). The sewn binding is generally tight but is cracked at one section. The book measures approximately 7 by 8-3/4 inches, and contains 207 pages, plus four pages of ads for other books at the back.

This book will be shipped by media mail, with postal insurance included within the US. International postal insurance may be declined if not desired.
