My shop is a mix of vintage costume jewelry, buttons, clothing, books, postcards, sheet music, ephemera, photos, and more.
Back in the 1940s, some woman wore this dress dancing and dining at a nightclub, or perhaps to a cocktail party. It’s made of a stretchy rayon crepe, in a luscious purple color, with a matching belt. The shoulder pads and the pleats at the neck and hip-line give the dress a great deal of Retro style. Add a pair of rhinestone clips at the corners of the squared neckline and you have glamour.
The sleeve and hem edges are bound with seam binding and hemmed by hand, and there is a zipper at the side of the waist. There are no manufacturers or size/fabric labels.
The fabric is a little discolored with reddish tones in some areas. There is a 1-inch hole in the front about a foot from the hemline, and and there is an area of damage at the bottom of the hem in the back. As the dress is floor-length, it could be shortened to eliminate this damage.
The dress measures approximately 33 inches at the bustline, 28 inches at the waist, 38 inches at the hips, and 50 inches from shoulder to hem. You can see it is a little too small for my wicker mannequin at the bustline.
The dress is clean, and comes to you from our smoke-free, pet-free home. It will be carefully packaged and shipped by priority mail, with postal insurance included.
