This book of James Thurber cartoons and drawings is subtitled: “A new collection of drawings of male and female animals, including the human”. It was compiled by Helen Thurber (his wife) from early Thurber drawings found in their attic, contributions from friends’ private collections, other unpublished sources, and some previously-published favorites. She has written the introduction.

This book was published by Harper & Row in 1966, with copyright by Helen Thurber. It is a First Edition. It’s filled with wonderful black-and-white drawings and funny captioned cartoons.

The book has a beige fabric hardcover with a gilt pictorial and title, with the same pictorial on the endpapers. Condition is very good overall. The cover has some shelf wear at the top and bottom of the spine, and is sunned at the top and bottom edges. The binding is tight and there are no cracks at the endpapers. The pages are in very good condition with no tears or creases. The colorful dust jacket has edge wear and one 1/2 inch tear at the back. The book contains 208 pages, and measures approximately 7-1/4 by 10-1/2 inches.
