This little book contains a number of stories for older children – the first one is called “Jessie’s Neighbor”. The book was published by D. Lothrop & Co. in Boston, and is one of the “Out of School” series.

There is no date but the illustrations and style indicate the 1880s. There is a frontispiece illustration, probably of the author, with a tissue interleaf, and also many other beautiful black-and-white plates throughout the book.

The book is in good condition overall, with wear on the covers and spine. It has a dark green cloth hardcover binding with an illustration in gilt and black. The hinge is loose at the front, and the back endpaper is cracked. The pages are in very good condition, although somewhat browned with age. The book contains about 80 pages, and measures approximately 6-1/4 by 7 inches.
