This small leather-bound book is a pleasure to hold in the hand and a fascinating document of justice in the early 1800s. It was compiled and printed by Isaac Hill in 1824, in Concord, New Hampshire. Apparently JPs had much wider authority than today, as the book appears to list every possible criminal act that might happen in New Hampshire, from such major crimes as treason and murder, down to such misdemeanors as traveling on the Sabbath and inspection of beef.
