This oversized statement of the ultimate, chic brooch offers a delightful combination of faux pearls and green art glass cabochons set in bright, textured goldtone finish, accented with sparkling clear rhinestones! It comes with the matching signed earrings. I would date this from late 1950-60's. Almost from the start, Carnegie's clientele were many famous socialites and artists including Joan Crawford. Her jewelry, relatively speaking, was always expensive and now is very collectible due to her attention to details and style.
This is in near mint condition. I acquired it observing the upper left faux pearl has some type of minor distortion in the coating near a prong which can been viewed in one of these photos. As far as I am concerned, it does not detract from the overall presentation which is big and beautiful. We all know that real pearls often have natural lumps and bumps in their shape and nacre and this looks similar to something Mother Nature would have made.
The brooch measures 2 1/4" square, adding up to an abundance of action, rising in a dome effect and filled with so many interesting design elements. Faux pearls and swirls intermix with detailed leaves inset with prong set faux diamonds all leading to the huge center stone of speckled mellow green surrounded by more faux pearls. Stand Back & Enjoy!
