These pretty transferware plates are in the Jenny Lind pattern by Royal Staffordshire Pottery, England. The backstamp indicates they were manufactured circa 1900.

The centre of each plate features a tableau of three people, two women and a man, making their way to the castle in the distance. Trees, mountains and what looks like a lake complete the tranquil scene. The plates are bordered by foliage - often called acorns and leaves, but looking more like grapes on the vine to me - and a repeated pattern of an imposing structure surrounded by more trees.

These versatile plates are 7 7/8 inches in diameter, so strictly speaking, they are salad plates; however, they also serve as luncheon and sandwich plates. Contrasting nicely with the off-white background, the pink transferware patterns were applied neatly and are crisply detailed. The plates have no cracks and are very gently worn, with shiny glaze. One plate, slightly darker than the other, has a tiny, almost unnoticeable flake off the edge. Other than that, they are in excellent condition for use or display.
