REDUCED Pink Transferware Plate ~ Jenny Lind by Royal Staffordshire

This pretty transferware plate is in the Jenny Lind pattern by Royal Staffordshire Pottery, England. The backstamp indicates it was manufactured circa 1900.

The centre of the plate features a tableau of three people, two women and a man, making their way to the castle in the distance. Trees, mountains and what looks like a lake complete the tranquil scene. The plate is bordered by foliage - often called acorns and leaves, but looking more like grapes on the vine to me - and a repeated pattern of an imposing structure surrounded by more trees.

This versatile plate is 7 7/8 inches in diameter, so strictly speaking, is a salad plate; however, it also serves as a luncheon or sandwich plate. Contrasting nicely with the off-white background, the pink transferware pattern was applied neatly and is crisply detailed. The plate has no cracks and is very gently worn, with shiny glaze. In excellent condition for use or display.
