This little Victorian dresser jar features hand painted, gilt swags and bows, as well as dainty flowers in purple, white and green. Whether it was commercially produced, or the result of a hobby, is unknown. The only marking is a raised 7 on the bottom. Likely part of a set, the lidded jar is made of opaque, frosted milk glass, or satin glass, the edges of which show a golden glow when the piece is held to the light, a sure sign of authenticity.
This sweet old piece is in good condition, considering it is over 120 years old. The gilt paint on the lid and sides is worn, but generally good. The hand painted flowers have not fared quite so well, and are almost completely gone on one side, although the other side appears almost complete. The flowers are quite thickly painted, with raised petals. The three inch high jar has no cracks or repairs. Though the interior top edge is chippy, the chips are not visible when the lid is in place.
