Wow! This fabulous vintage appliance was made in the late 1920s by Landers, Frary & Clark of New Britain, Connecticut. Their brand, Universal, was billed as "The Trademark Known in Every Home", and with good reason. The company, which invented the first electric waffle iron in 1918, was famous for their stylish, high end appliances.

This one is a beauty, with classic Art Deco styling. Like many Art Deco pieces, it still looks very modern, even space age! It is 12 1/2 inches across the base, including the handles. The actual waffle making part is 7 1/2 inches in diameter. Three black, turned wood handles contrast nicely with the shiny chrome surface. The plate on the bottom of the waffle iron gives the following information: No. E7104, Volts 110/120, Watts 660.

In wonderful condition for its age, this waffle iron still works well. It heats up quickly and retains the heat for a long time. The surface has age appropriate wear consisting of minor surface scratching and a few touches of corrosion. The cord appears to have been replaced at some point and is in perfect shape.
