Made by Warwick China of Wheeling, West Virginia, this semi-porcelain charger is a generous 12 inches in diameter. It features the deep brown glaze for which the company was justifiably famous, set off nicely by the red rose hips with their delicate green leaves. The transfers were carefully applied and one can even see the tiny thorns on the stems. The scalloped and embossed rim is decorated with gold.
As may be expected for dinnerware of this age, the plate does have some light wear, mostly to the rim where the gold paint has rubbed off. The embossed edge has lost some paint on the raised areas, and there are light scratches from utensil use. Free of chips, cracks and crazing, it displays beautifully and would look fabulous in a country kitchen.
