What a beautiful cookbook!
Divided into four sections for the four seasons, this book was printed and bound in Verona, Italy on wonderful thick, pastel paper - yellow for Autumn, pale grey for Winter, pink for Spring, and mint green for Summer. In each section can be found recipes for seasonally appropriate appetizers, soups and salads, main courses, vegetables and desserts. The accompanying full colour, full page pictures are fabulous examples of the art of photography.
This exceptional cookbook is in very good condition. The covers are creamy white and very clean, having been covered by the dust jacket, which has a 1 1/2 inch tear on the front upper right corner and normal shelf wear to the other corners. Inside, the pages are clean, crisp and tightly bound, with occasionally some check marks beside certain recipes and some neat underlining of the text.
Measuring 12 by 8 1/2 inches, this book contains 319 pages of recipes varying in degrees of difficulty, for the beginner and the pro. James Beard provided wine lists suitable for each season as well as the foreword to the book, which retails for up to $75.00 on other sites. The original 1971 price of $25.00 applies here.
