This ground-breaking book, published in 1973, told the harrowing tale of a woman with sixteen separate personalities. A surprise best-seller, in 1976 it was made into a TV movie of the same name, starring Sally Field as Sybil, a survivor of horrific abuse in childhood, and Joanne Woodward as the psychiatrist who untangled the multiple personalities resulting from the abuse. Sally Field won an Emmy award, and Joanne Woodward received an Emmy nomination. SYBIL won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Special that year.

Published by the Henry Regnery Company, Chicago, this first edition is in very good shape. The rust coloured boards are clean and have typical shelf wear. Inside, the pages are generally clean, with no creasing except for one folded corner. The book includes sixteen pages of art done by many of the multiple personalities. There is no dust jacket. The book measures 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches and is 424 pages. Other internet sites ask as much as $75.00 for a first edition of this book.

One of the first books to describe and explain multiple personality disorder, this is a fascinating journey into the mind of a brave woman and her eventual triumph over her childhood traumas.
