Laughing or not, she is quite adorable, with lots of detail and typical Holstein colouring. Her nose is pink, as are the insides of her ears. She wears a cowbell on a deeper pink collar around her neck. The applied handle of the jug is made to look like a branch, ending in leaves where it joins to the back of the cow's head.
This majolica type pitcher is 8 1/2 inches tall and 4 inches across the base. The smudged stamp on the bottom is entirely illegible, but the jug was likely made in Japan, and certainly prior to World War II.
In really good condition for its age, the pitcher does have some chips, most noticeably on the ends of the horns and the edges of the ears. There are several smaller flakes, fleabites and glaze pops, but no cracks or repairs. The surface is crazed, more so on the body than on the head.
Charming and cheerful, this pitcher will appeal to anyone who loves and collects cows.
