The tumbler, made from sturdy ironstone, is 4 inches tall and 3 inches across. It is decorated all around with burgundy convolvulus flowers, a member of the morning glory family. The delicate flowers, leaves and trailing tendrils of vine are very pretty and feminine.
Signed simply on the bottom with C.B. and the pattern name, the tumbler could have been made by any of several Staffordshire potteries in Stoke-on-Trent which used these initials to sign their wares. In excellent condition, the tumbler has no cracks or crazing. There are two tiny flakes off the bottom of the cup (see picture) and a few tiny glaze pops and rusty freckles - imperfections common to early stoneware. The transfers are remarkably clear and detailed.
A romantic relic of the Victorian age.
