Very Rare Early 19th C. Boulle Chamberstick with Ornate Brass Reticulated Fretwork and Red Tortoiseshell / Marine Shell inlay. Circa 1825. French, dating to the Napoleon III Era. This is a truly quality item of the correct period. The chamberstick has beautiful casting, with detachable sconce and snuffer, both which are original. Fretted or reticulated brass cutwork decoration and a lovely deep Red Tortoiseshell inlay.
Condition is Very Good considering its age and the likelihood of much use. The rim edge of the wooden base where it meets the inlay has some chipping and an old split to the ebony wood base, but it's rich with dark patina and it's original green beize is still present. As with most Boulle work, the Tortoiseshell tends to shrink or expand due to heat or cold (see photos). The Brass fretwork has lifted in places around the edge. It is still complete though. There are a few of the tiniest pieces of marine shell inlay missing, but nothing major. Could easily be repaired, but I would not touch it, as its an amazing piece...so ultimately charming the way it is.
Measurements: 3.75"D x 2.5"H. Country Of Origin: France.
Condition: Very Good with Fabulous Charm.
