Art is for the Home and for the Soul. Prints, Drawings, Paintings TO DIE FOR! Layaways. We ship worldwide everyday.
Seen thru the eyes of Flatters, the German artist who illustrated the French edition of Paradise Lost in the mid 19th Century, Satan is not yet the Devil, but still the magnificent Angel he was before the Fall.
This engraving of Satan circling the walls of Heaven, has been published into a poster, but of course, you get the original here!
Just like my other Flatters pieces (Satan's forge, and before, the Fallen Angels on the tar lake) this work is breathtaking.
There is nothing like it in its the time, and I guess Flatters' artworks took everyone by surprise. The 1855 book from which this print was taken, was sold on subscription, and was a true success.
It must have been a huge heavy volume judging by the size of the page. You will see the gilt on the side, real gold leaf obviously. And traces of the transparent paper that covered all illustrations.
A very hot collectible, timeless and prestigious.
