(Gatines is the author of the amazing Regency fashion caricatures in the "Le Bon Genre" gazette)
The young lady is from the city of Caen in Normandy, and wears an extraordinary coiffe, rigidly starched batiste and lace, that looks very much like the Chantilly whipped cream from the area!
Behind her delightful costume are all kinds of little characters that you will love discovering: a cow (this is Normandy!) a man with a top hat, a small military squadron training, etc.
The artwork is an engraving on thick paper and it is hand colored. A strong piece in a traditional series of French provinces, a subject extremely fashionable at the time.
MEASUREMENTS: Length: 10 1/4" Width: 6 1/4"
CONDITION: Very good with no holes or stains. Colors still very fresh. The piece looks like it was framed at some point and borders have been trimmed somewhat.
The piece will be shipped Registered Airmail (very safe!) including insurance and signature at delivery.
