The painting was done circa 1880 and is a gouache (a thicker type of watercolor) with a wealth of exquisite details.
The robes are magnificent! All embroideries, jewelry and ornaments are rendered hyper-realistically.
The colors are incredibly vibrant, the typical QIng Dynasty dark blue, vivid pinks, vermilion red, cream and a fresh green.
Both ladies have of course bound feet!
A small treasure of 19th Century Chinese painting
