This was the peak of French Modernist Tapestry, the most famous artist being Jean Lurcat, and it is clearly reflected in the style of this small work of Art.
The motif alternates Middle Ages shields and stylized flowers with a strong thistles feel.
Against a cream base, there are 3 main colors: a carmine red, very typical of the era, a green with a lot of gray in it, and a gold, which is fairly vibrant in real.
The brown velvet has a very interesting three dimensional effect (see pic) which resembles waves and is quite different from the usual crushed velvet.
It has a metallic trim on both sides, and the edges of the pillowcase are finished with a "passementerie" cord, traditional to French decor. The back is a tan rayon.
French Eames pieces are very rare to find, particularly the first half of the decade, as the country was still completely devastated by the war. This was definitely a luxury item for the time.
Completely unique, highly decorative, this is a rare piece with amazing mid-century style. Keep it preciously!
MEASUREMENTS: Length: 21 ". Width: 17".
CONDITION: Very fresh, very little fading. Normal darkening of the metallic trim. No holes or stains at the front. Couple small holes at the back. In excellent condition.
