SOLD Italian Oil Painting of Madonna & Child in Gothic Frame

I really don't know much about this fine oil painting other than it is early and most likely Italian in origin. The painting is executed on canvas and features a gilt gold background, it is well done with excellent attention to detail. The canvas is backed by thick wooden boards, I did not remove it from the frame but it looks like the painting was relined, the boards are not as early as the frame itself. The frame is wood with gesso decorations, it has a gold painted finish which is old but not original. The painting does have some symbols, they look like Roman Numerals, I am not sure if it is part of a monogram or a dated, see closeup photo. This is a BIG piece measuring 38" x 23" x 3 1/2" across the widest points of the frame, the painting when measured from the front opening is 27 1/2" x 14 3/4". The painting is in good overall condition for it's age. It has crazing and some small scattered losses mainly to the edges, see photo's. There is a repaint at the bottom of the Madonna's dress. The frame has losses to the gesso decorations including to the bottom and sides of the frame. I took several photo's so you can judge the overall condition. The painting has a beautiful decorative presense and would make a great addition to a fine art collection.
