A most unusual antique cup depicting a Wolverine or Badger. The cup is made of soft paste porcelain or Old Paris Porcelain and is European in origin. The animal subject is very unusual and might have a Heraldry connotation. The cup has hand painted gilt gold decoration both on the exterior and inside the top rim. The only marks are 2 small incised lines on the underside. Overall dimension excluding the handle are 3 3/8" in diameter x 2 1/2" high. The cup has one clam shell shaped hairline on the top edge above the animal, see photos. There is some wear to the gold which is common to this type of porcelain. The cup would make a fine addition to a 19th century ceramics collection.
