A very beautiful antique (dated 1885) Victorian tri fold vanity mirror. The mirror has a lovely embossed cover featuring a lady watching a bird, the edges have a delicate Aesthetic floral design. The second and third covers are embossed paperboard with a wonderful design that includes Cherub Angels, a Knight or Soldier, Gargoyles, a fairy flying on the back of a dragonfly, cats, dogs, scrolls and flowers. The paperboard has a burnished copper finish. The mirror is made to hang on a wall and be folded away when not in use, there is a clasp to keep it closed and of course it becomes a beautiful decorative accessory. The front is dated "Pat Feb'y 10, 1885". Overall dimensions including the hanging chain are 14 1/4" x 8" and each mirror frame is approximately 9 3/8" x 8". The frame is in very good overall condition. The only thing to note are some light streaks on the back that might be paint. The mirrors look original, they have the wonderful steel gray color of the era (later mirrors are more silver in color). The mirrors are not perfect and have some crazing and losses but you can still see your image. I like the old look of the steel gray but if you want to have new mirrors inserted it is easy because the frame is held together with a small screw. The mirror is lovely and would be perfect in a period Victorian or Aesthetic decor.
