Tutti Frutti

There is a lot of misinformation floating around on the internet about this type of Murano glass commonly referred to as tutti frutti, most likely started on ebay with someone's wishful thinking or perhaps willful deception, some are describing this glass as designed by Dino Martens. Almost all attribute it to AVeM but I have seen it with Ferro Arts labels and some are undoubtedly Fratelli productions. Interestingly enough I have never seen a piece with an AVem label... heh... I would not doubt there are examples of Roman glass with scrap canes thrown randomly in the molten glass and used. I think I have seen a scent flask made that way. Glass that is frequently referred to as end-of-day glass is of course spattered with different colored glass pieces intentionally, but there is no doubt there are some existing pieces that were really made from the scraps (cullet) by bored or curious glass workers and taken home as whimsies. This technique of tutti frutti, it seems to me, just worked very well with the modern style of glass being introduced during the mid century in the Murano glass export industry.
