This vintage signed Archimede Seguso Glass candle sculpture stands 16 1/2" inches high. It comes in two perfectly fitted pieces. Unfortunately there is a small chip on the very tip of the flame. No other damage at all.

The piece is signed on bottom of the clear holder and there is also an original production number (?) and price... $800.oo each it says on the top of the base... The chip doesn't break the outline much and could be repaired or left as is. Here is an opportunity to own an affordable work of the Master!

_____________________________________________________

"Probably as an indirect result of the crusades and the fall of the Eastern Empire, glass manufacture in Venice entered a period of development about the beginning of the eleventh century which soon made that city the center of the glass industry, which dominant position it maintained for four centuries... Glass manufacture in Venice became a large-scale industry, which was jealously protected as a monopoly. An elaborate guild system was set up in 1279, which provided a system of apprenticeship requiring eight years for it's completion. In 1291 the glass works were moved to the island of Murano, a seperate borough of the city, and drastic measures were taken to prohibit the exportation of scrap glass, called cullets, and the immigration of workmen. Syrian craftsmen were imported, who brought with them technical recipes and procedures from Byzantium and the Egyptian orient. The technical excellence of the Venetian glassware gives evidence of the highest degree of craftmanship and the beauty of it's design has never been surpassed."
