Wire Wrapped Floral Necklace of Aqua Briolettes

I've just gotten in a fairly large shipment of briolettes in glass and crystals, and gemstones are on their way! In this design I have utilized faceted flat briolettes of deep aqua glass in combination with mauve Fresh Water Pearls, watermelon colored Czech Glass, fuchsia Swarovski Crystals, and green leaves of pressed glass with a frosted matte finish. This is an experimental piece of work and I have used fine brass wire in the composition with gold plated chain, a lobster clasp, and a deep aqua crystal charm drop on the other end of the chain. Necklace length is adjustable up to 20 inches. Another designer asked me why I used Brass Wire in this design. I chose the construction of this design very carefully with a thought toward long term enjoyment of the design. This is where the Art element of designing is involved in a very intimate way. A design in gold or gold filled will ALWAYS be that color. It won't change in it's presentation of color for years, if at all. Silver will tarnish unless it is coated with a sealant that keeps air from coming in contact with it. Copper will turn green over the years from oxidation and develops toxins in that green stuff. Brass starts out a nice yellow golden brass color....but over time develops a uniform patina that deepens in color and character, giving an ambiance of antiquity. If this is something that you want your jewelry to do in certain instances, then it is the right thing to use. I will produce some floral necklaces in Silver and Gold with gemstones, pearls, and crystals for those who are offended by the idea of the use of brass in this design and I welcome custom orders of this style in Precious Metals, BUT........my most beautiful jewelry in this style, long term, will be the ones I created in brass, because the brass windings of the vines, ect...will develop deeper patina and provide a beautiful contrast with the pearls, crystals, and gemstones to give a richer character to the design over all. Each year that passes by, the design will become more than what it was on the day it was finished.
