Drawn from life over the course of 5 days, this is an academic drawing similar to the academics of Pierre Paul Proudhon, the 19th century artist who took simple academic exercises and turned them in to an art form.
This is one of my favorite figure drawings. I did it in the Spring of my last year in school. The model was an athlete, a dancer who had such beautiful lines to her poses, every pose she took from simple reclining to a more dynamic standing pose, seemed to exude grace.
I entered this drawing along with several other nudes in a show the following fall and was informed that because the show was sponsered by the city, my drawings with their "questionable subject matter", i.e. neked people, would not be allowed.
So rather than pull them from the show I cut little tiny clothes out of construction paper and taped them on the glass of the frames. Little boxer shorts and bikini tops for the different jobs. This one got a blue towel wrapped aroud her waist. I thought it was funny so the drawing still hangs with the little towel.
This drawing is unframed and will ship in a mailing tube to protect it.
