About Us
Until March 1996 I lived in Amsterdam, Holland, where I was born shortly after the second World War.
I saved the best for last: In 1995 I met my (American) husband and so I packed up my most important possessions ( my piano and my dog ) and moved to the US, where we got married in 1996.
Ever since I was really small, I've been intrigued by fabulous joolz. The joolz I put together in my early years consisted of self made beads of paper, clay, and cheap plastic beads.
The first 'real' piece was a luscious bib out of black and turquoise glass beads, and the beads I was using came from dresses that had belonged to my mother when she was a teenager and older necklaces, that had belonged to my grandmother. No need to say that the love for shiny embellishments did run in the family...
When I first got used to the Web I discovered eBay and the never ending stream of vintage joolz. I started to collect vintage costume joolz: Weiss, Hagler, Hattie Carnegie, Haskell, and the more I collected, the worse my addiction became :-).
All these beauties inspired me to pick up my old passion: making joolz, 'MilliJoolz'. It started with searching for the right beads, findings and other components. It took me a while to collect enough stuff to start, and the first pieces I put together were necklaces the way I like them most: Long Luscious Drippy 'BIBS'.
Then I used some of the designer signed vintage brooches I had collected, attaching them to matching Swarovski Crystals which resulted in original one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry, 'Centerpiece Necklaces'.
Just to be clear: unless a piece can not be salvaged, I do not - in any way - damage or alter it. The brooches that I use for these necklaces will always keep their collector's value.
About a year ago I decided to make my own 'centerpieces'. Strongly inspired by Hagler, Haskell and DeMario, I used the 'wiring technique': brooch-type centerpieces in elaborate shapes and colors. Someone once asked: "... what good is jewelry if you can't see it from 100 yards distance...?? ". I do SO agree!
I never make the same design twice. Every piece I start is a passionate challenge, I don't stop until it is completely the way I want it to be. For instance, the genuine turquoise necklace and earring set 'For Your Eyes Only' took me over 3 months to finish. It's like giving birth - each piece is unique, and a piece of my self. I do sell, but only to extremely loving homes...:-)
Besides being in love with Glamorous, Flashy and Glitzy Joolz I am a profound music lover; a lot of times my creations are being named after songs that I love. Other than that I'm pretty normal .. :-D
