8 1/2" Antique Metal Head Baby with wooden bellows for crying. Cute character face metal head baby made by The Art Metal Works Co. of Newark New Jersey. The company was started by Louis Aronson in the 1880's. They manufactured art and home decoration products such as clocks, vases, desk sets and other novelties. In 1915 they made a metal head baby with wooden bellows that when squeezed made a "Mama" sound. In the 1920's Aronson made beautiful cigarette lighters which the company is best known for. Baby has a metal head with nicely painted features. Blue painted eyes, an open closed mouth with 2 painted teeth and painted molded blonde hair. The hands are solid metal and very heavy. The doll has a cloth body that has bellows you squeeze and a round base for standing. The doll has no feet, it is more of a mechanical doll than a play doll. Baby wears an original long white cotton baby dress with a full yoke bib. The doll is in excellent condition with no paint chips. The paint is bright and clear, a very clean doll. The metal hands have some slight wear on finger tips. The doll makes more of a squawky sound than a Mama sound when you squeeze the tummy. The cloth body is nice with no tears in the fabric. Marks: The bottom of the base is stamped Fully Patented Made in U. S. A. Circa 1915. Nice, hard to find metal head baby.
