DINNER SIZE! Antique French Sterling Vermeil Pearl Knives 9 1/2 in. 12 pc Boxed Set Silver Gilt MOP Knife c. 1820
A magnificent and rare set of 12 antique French pearl and vermeil knives in the oh, so very hard-to-find table or dinner size, 9 1/2 inches long, all, with their original steel blades and tucked in their original fitted presentation box! A rare and fabulous set! The knives were retailed by jeweler, Thomas Bijoutier, Nimes, France. Created in the early 19th century (c. 1820) with handles of mother of pearl and tips and ferrules of vermeil (18k gold over silver, probably sterling), each knife also bears a vermeil crest without monogram... you may add your own! Just imagine the glamour these will add to your festive table! The style is French 1st Empire, but these are versatile enough to use with almost any style of sterling flatware. They would be a grand compliment to our sets of early French silver dinner spoons and forks, as well as, with our large set of vermeil flatware, sold separately.
Length c. 9 1/2 in. (24.25 cm.)
Very good antique condition with some wear to the gilding, a crest missing from one knife and some age-cracking on the back of two. The early steel blades are in good condition with just some minor stains from use. Even the case is in very good condition, with a small stain on the silk lining. A beautiful and rare set and a grand addition to the grand tabletop!
