An exquisite pair of 19th century Sèvres vases, decorated with white roses on a blue ground and mounted in brass ormolu with laurel garlands at the base! The naturalistic floral style of decoration was popular during the period of the Aesthetic Movement and foretold the coming of art nouveau. Photos 2 and 3 reveal the splendid hand-painting, full of details and an elegant range of subtle shades of whites and blues.

These are so rare! A true, matching pair, not just assembled. As modern in style today as they were over a hundred years ago and in almost everyone's favorite colors! I can see them as a splendid accent in a blue and white toile room, perhaps on an old marble mantelpiece or an antique French bombe' chest, as well as, an early modern room of whites with chrome and glass, can't you?!

On the underside, each vase bears the green oval Sevres mark with the year, which was used by Sevres from 1833 - 1899. The year of the vases appears to end in six and may be 66 for 1866, though it is difficult to tell for sure. There are also some impressed marks on the bases, shown in the large images.

Height: c. 9 1/2 in. (24 cm.)

Both vases are in exceptional condition, with no chips, cracks, hairlines, signs of wear or other damage to the porcelain. There are very minor signs of wear on the ormolu bases. The vases display beautifully! Don't let these get away! A perfect gift for someone special, or for your own cottage or chateau.
