Antique French VERMEIL Gold Sterling Silver & Glass Decanter Carafe
A French vermeil (18k - 22k gold on silver) wine decanter for the dinner table, from Maison Risler-Carre. The body is etched and gilded with a label for white wine from the Moselle (Mosel). You don't see many decanters especially for wines, so this is special! The stopper and base are each stamped with the French Minerve I guarantee for .950 silver, which is purer than sterling. The base also bears the name Risler-Carre and the diamond-shaped lozenge with their hallmark. The firm was active in Paris 1897-1912 on the prestigious rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore. The base is removable for cleaning.
Height to top of stopper c. 12 in. (30.5 cm); Diameter of base c. 3 1/4 in. (8.3 cm.)
Very good antique condition with normal wear to the gilding. No chips, cracks on the glass. The cork has dried but might come back to life with liquid in the bottle. If not, you certainly won't require it to store your wine, since you won't open your wine bottle until a while before serving. It can also, probably be replaced if desired. A delightful and fairly rare addition to a collection of French table ware!
