A gorgeous faience plate from Switzerland! (Assiette Suisse en faience) Its design is gorgeous and very finely painted. Borrowing from the popular, French rococo style, the center bears an elaborate cartouche or medallion with an alpine Swiss figure within a landscape: a shepherd in the traditional Appenzeller festival attire of red waistcoat and canary-yellow knickers.
